BEIJING, July 5 — Iran’s ambassador to China has said that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to new charges, while indicating that “friendly” countries may receive preferential treatment, a proposal opposed by Washington.
LONDON, July 4 — UK authorities have warned parents to be cautious about sharing children’s photos online, saying such images could be misused to create AI-generated child sexual abuse material.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) said criminals are increasingly using artificial intelligence tools to generate illegal imagery, with a sharp rise in detected cases over the past year.
They cited a UK school incident in which publicly available student photos were allegedly used to create sexualised AI images for blackmail, highlighting growing risks from “deepfake” abuse content.
The IWF reported thousands of AI-generated child abuse videos and images in 2025, a significant increase from the previous year, with many classified as the most severe category of abuse under UK law.
Officials urged parents to review privacy settings, limit image sharing, and speak with children about online consent and the risks of AI manipulation. They also advised using restricted sharing groups and reporting tools if misuse occurs. — Bernama-PA Media/dpa
