TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
BATU KAWAN, July 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today urged Malaysians not to be swayed by racial hatred or divisive rhetoric that could jeopardise national harmony.
Instead, he encouraged citizens to embrace the nation’s diversity, calling it a key strength in driving Malaysia’s growth and development.
He stressed that racial incitement would not lead to progress, and only stability could guarantee lasting development.
Anwar said the Madani Government under his leadership remains committed to addressing the people’s concerns — including housing, poverty, and the cost of living — without sidelining any racial group, particularly minority communities.
“I want to remind Malaysians that preserving national unity is a shared responsibility. If we truly want to safeguard this nation, unity must be upheld. That’s our strength.
“Yes, the Bumiputera Malays are the majority, but if we care for all — Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, and Kadazans — then our country will be secure. Unity and harmony aren’t just necessary; they are vital to Malaysia’s survival,” he said at the launch of the 2025 National-Level Unity Week (SMP) at Batu Kawan Stadium.
Also in attendance were National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, and Deputy Unity Minister K. Saraswathy.
Anwar also highlighted the importance of resolving issues through dialogue rather than emotional provocation or incitement, including calls for his resignation.
“If anyone wants to change the government, bring a motion in Parliament stating that the prime minister has lost majority support — then he must step down. But it hasn’t happened because there is no such support. If change is desired, wait for the general election.
“Nation-building takes time and effort; destruction, however, comes easily. Malaysia remains peaceful today because its people are more mature and not easily swayed by divisive rhetoric,” he said.
On the international front, Anwar noted that Malaysia’s political stability has gained global recognition, citing recent major diplomatic engagements in Kuala Lumpur during the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
“For the first time since Donald Trump’s presidency, top-level talks took place between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Malaysia served as the host for these important discussions.
As Finance Minister, Anwar also announced an additional RM10 million allocation to the Ministry of National Unity to support nationhood programmes.
Earlier, Minister Aaron had requested the special allocation to promote unity initiatives among the younger generation. — Bernama
