TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — A prosecution witness in Lim Guan Eng’s corruption trial was reportedly assaulted by a group of 10 men at his home near Petaling Jaya earlier today.
According to the New Straits Times, which cited a source involved in the case, the witness sustained multiple injuries to his face and hand after the assailants forced their way into the house. Before entering, the group allegedly tied up two security guards stationed at the premises.
One of the attackers was said to have warned the victim to “stay at home and not become a hero,” the source added.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja’afar confirmed the incident and said an official statement would be released soon.
Lead prosecutor Datuk Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin said the matter would be brought to the court’s attention when the trial resumes on August 19.
Lim, who is the DAP adviser, is currently facing several corruption charges at the Sessions Court related to the Penang Undersea Tunnel project. He is accused of soliciting a 10 per cent share of company profits from Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd’s director, receiving RM3.3 million in bribes, and involvement in the disposal of two state-owned land plots linked to the project.
