IPOH, Dec 4 — The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) apprehended 1,078 individuals during Ops Cegah Khas, a nationwide three-day operation that began on Monday.
AADK deputy director-general (Operations) Zainudin Abdullah reported that Kinta district recorded the highest number of arrests in Perak, with 164, followed by Larut, Matang and Selama with 55, and Hulu Perak with 48. During the crackdown in Kinta, several drug dens in Chemor, Tambun, Bercham, and Menglembu were raided.
“A 58-year-old woman, currently under Kinta district AADK supervision, was also detained. Her 65-year-old husband has a prior police record. The couple is unemployed, and their children reportedly support their drug habit,” he said at a press conference held yesterday at the Home Ministry Complex.
Zainudin added that intelligence reports showed drug dens near cemeteries, waste disposal areas, and overgrown bushes have resumed operations despite being shut down earlier this year.
“These dens are active from 6am to 10am and again from 5pm to 7pm, with an estimated 20 to 30 addicts present at any time,” he said, adding that AADK plans to step up enforcement in line with amendments to the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 (Act 283). — Bernama
