BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
The group includes serving and former members of the progressive People’s Party, as well as those from its now-dissolved predecessor Move Forward, all of whom are alleged to have breached ethical standards and will now face trial.
In recent years, hundreds of individuals have been prosecuted under Thailand’s strict lese-majeste legislation.
The court has yet to issue an official statement, though several Thai media outlets reported that the case has been accepted. — Reuters
