KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 — National men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik are prioritising fitness as they prepare for the new BWF World Tour season, starting with the Malaysia Open on January 6.

Aaron said the duo is focusing on improving their physical conditioning to meet the sport’s increasing demands, cope with a packed tournament calendar, and maintain peak performance as their careers progress.

“We aim to sustain our fitness and follow our training and recovery programmes closely, so that is under control,” he said after a session at Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM) today.

He also welcomed national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky’s advice for players to be selective with tournaments, calling it a timely move to manage workload and performance. Aaron hopes their 2026 schedule will stay below 20 events to remain in optimal condition and expressed his ambition to maintain a top-three world ranking, which he noted can be advantageous in terms of votes. — Bernama
