KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — National badminton duo Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik returned home to a warm welcome and a well-earned reward.

The pair was awarded RM20,000 under the National Sports Incentive Scheme (Shakam), as confirmed by National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Jefri Ngadirin.

Although a new incentive structure is currently being developed, Jefri explained that the payout was made based on an existing allocation specifically for Asian Championships winners.

The revised incentive structure is still under a two-month review and will be presented to the NSC board for final approval once completed.

Chia and Soh clinched the Asian Championships title after defeating China’s Chen Boyang and Liu Yi, ending Malaysia’s 18-year wait for the men’s doubles crown. The last Malaysian pair to win the title was Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah in 2007.
