PUTRAJAYA, March 18 — Individual taxpayers do not need to file an amended Income Tax Return Form (BNCP) for the 2025 Year of Assessment to correct accidental markings in the “Tax Borne by Employer” column.

The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) said in a statement today that it has reviewed and identified the affected cases.

“The IRB has noted that some taxpayers mistakenly marked the ‘Tax borne by employer’ column when completing their 2025 income tax returns, causing delays in receiving excess tax refunds,” the statement said.

“For cases confirmed as marking errors, excess tax refunds will be processed in stages,” it added.

The IRB explained that refunds are calculated automatically based on the information provided in tax returns, making accuracy essential for smooth and timely processing.

The board also reaffirmed its commitment to managing tax refunds fairly, transparently, and with integrity, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of the country’s tax administration. — Bernama
