Alor Gajah police arrest suspect, seize heroin and methamphetamine in roadside operation

ALOR GAJAH, Jan 7 — Police have arrested an unemployed man believed to be in possession of 31.26 grammes of heroin and 5.47 grammes of methamphetamine, valued at about RM1,338.70, on Sunday.

ALOR GAJAH, Jan 7 — Police have arrested an unemployed man believed to be in possession of 31.26 grammes of heroin and 5.47 grammes of methamphetamine, valued at about RM1,338.70, on Sunday.

Alor Gajah police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said the 26-year-old suspect was detained at around 4.20pm while riding a motorcycle along the new Ayer Limau–Jeram road in Masjid Tanah.

He said investigations revealed the drugs were meant for distribution in the local market and could have supplied an estimated 73 users.

“Background checks showed the suspect has four previous records under Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He also tested positive for drug use,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment, along with 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction. — Bernama
