KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — An Immigration officer sustained injuries while trying to apprehend a foreign national during an enforcement raid at a nightclub in Bukit Bintang in the early hours of today.

Immigration Enforcement Division director Basri Othman said the operation, which commenced at 3.15am, resulted in the officer suffering a suspected fracture to his left leg after being rammed by the suspect, who subsequently escaped.

“The suspect, in an attempt to flee amid the commotion, forcefully collided with the officer, causing him to fall down a staircase inside the premises. He was later taken to hospital and is currently in stable condition,” he told Bernama.

Basri added that the operation involved 85 officers and personnel, including 15 members of the Special Tactical Team.

During the raid, authorities inspected 98 individuals and detained 48 foreign nationals for various immigration offences, such as overstaying and failing to produce valid identification documents.

He noted that many patrons were believed to be intoxicated at the time of inspection. Those detained included individuals from Myanmar, Thailand and several African nations.

Two Nigerian men were also arrested for allegedly working as disc jockeys while misusing student passes. All detainees were brought to the Putrajaya Immigration Office for further investigation and action. — Bernama
