BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — The government will provide a 50% toll discount nationwide for two days in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
The 48-hour discount will run from 12.01am on March 18 until 11.59pm on March 19, according to reports.
Anwar said the initiative is expected to cost the government about RM21.03 million in compensation to toll concessionaires.
The discount is limited to Class 1 private vehicles and does not apply to tolls at border entry points, including the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas in Johor.
In the same announcement, Anwar said the Insolvency Department will fast-track bankruptcy discharges for 4,000 vulnerable individuals, especially single parents, ahead of Aidilfitri.
He added that the move is part of broader efforts to ease the financial burden on Malaysians during the festive season, alongside measures such as an additional public holiday, early disbursement of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), and special cash aid for civil servants.
He also advised Malaysians to spend prudently while celebrating Aidilfitri, noting the need for financial discipline amid global economic uncertainty.
