KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysian diplomats to further strengthen the country’s economic diplomacy efforts, particularly in attracting quality investments, boosting trade and exploring strategic collaborations that can drive sustainable economic growth.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, highlighted the importance of this role during courtesy calls yesterday by 13 Malaysian Heads of Diplomatic Missions who are set to serve in key regions worldwide.

In a Facebook post, he said a diplomat’s responsibility goes beyond mastering protocol and maintaining official bilateral ties, stressing that diplomats must also have a strong understanding of history, culture, political systems and local community dynamics to ensure engagements are more effective and meaningful.

He also underscored the need to continuously nurture and empower the younger generation of diplomats, equipping them with broad knowledge, critical thinking skills and the ability to navigate increasingly complex geopolitical and global economic challenges.

Anwar added that Malaysia will continue to champion the principles of moderation, stability and good governance, while upholding a diplomatic approach rooted in wisdom and universal humanitarian values in representing the nation on the global stage. — Bernama
