KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Malaysia will soon roll out a new scheme providing workers with protection around the clock, covering accidents and injuries sustained even beyond office hours, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
The Non-Employment Injury Scheme, he explained, is aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s legal framework and ensuring broader protection for all employees, including those in flexible or remote work arrangements.
“This comes from the recognition that the pressures of work don’t end at the factory gate or office door. In today’s era of flexible and remote work, this reform brings protection in line with the realities of modern life,” Anwar said in his keynote address at the World Social Security Forum 2025 here.
He emphasised that the scheme would provide coverage at all times, acknowledging that “accidents and injuries do not follow a timetable.”
The initiative is consistent with earlier remarks by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, who in February said the ministry aimed to introduce legislation for a Non-Occupational Accident Scheme (SKBBK) this year to safeguard employees involved in incidents outside working hours.
