KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Madani Government remains committed to protecting creative freedom so that arts practitioners can produce braver, higher-quality and more meaningful works for the benefit of society and the nation.

In a Facebook post today, Anwar shared that he had received a courtesy visit from Skop Productions executive chairman Datuk Yusof Haslam, a prominent local director and producer, during which they discussed the progress and future direction of Malaysia’s film industry.

“Among the matters discussed were the challenges and potential of the creative sector, including concerns over the entertainment tax, which will be further reviewed and deliberated with state governments,” he said.

Anwar also praised the film Sheriff: Narko Integriti for highlighting issues of corruption and integrity, and welcomed the continued support of arts practitioners for the government’s commitment to openness and freedom of expression. — Bernama
