WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — Three celebrities will be summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) tomorrow to assist with investigations into a financial consulting syndicate. According to MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, they are scheduled to appear at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 10am. He stressed that they are not suspects, but are only required to provide statements as part of Ops Sky.
Azam earlier confirmed that one of the celebrities is a well-known artist linked to the now-dismantled syndicate. In January, the MACC and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) jointly exposed alleged corruption and money laundering activities involving a financial consulting firm and several bank officers. A total of 12 individuals were arrested following raids at 24 locations in the Klang Valley.
Preliminary findings indicate that loans worth RM700 million were approved for civil servants under suspicious circumstances, with bank officers accused of accepting bribes in exchange for facilitating personal loan applications. These officers allegedly approved applications based on documents suspected to contain false information provided by the consulting firm.
The MACC’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Division is continuing its investigation under Ops Sky, aiming to uncover any remaining evidence of corrupt practices within the financial sector.
