PARIS, June 7 — US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned yesterday that Europe was facing what he described as an “invasion” of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, drawing a link between immigration and the legacy of the D-Day landings during remarks in Normandy.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Plus Malaysia Berhad (Plus) expects heavy traffic of over 2.2 million vehicles daily across its highway network during the upcoming back-to-back holiday period starting this Friday.
On the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2), daily traffic is projected to reach up to 50,000 vehicles during peak hours.
In a statement today, Plus said the surge is driven by the overlap of the mid-year school holidays with Hari Raya Aidiladha, Wesak Day, and the official birthday of the King.
For outbound traffic from the Klang Valley, peak travel days are expected on May 22, 23, 26, 28, 29, 30 and 31, while return traffic peaks are forecast on June 4, 5, 6 and 7.
The company advised motorists to plan their balik kampung or holiday journeys early to help avoid congestion and to use the MyPlus-TTA digital travel schedule via the Plus app.
To manage traffic flow and ensure safety, Plus will activate Smart Lanes at 33 hotspots and deploy more than 500 PlusRonda and LPT2Ronda personnel for round-the-clock patrols.
All toll plaza lanes will also be fully opened, while real-time monitoring will be carried out through its Traffic Monitoring Centre.
Plus is working closely with the police, Road Transport Department, Malaysian Highway Authority and other agencies to ease congestion and maintain road safety throughout the festive period.
Motorists can check live updates via the Plus app, PUTRI virtual assistant, @Plustrafik and @lpt2trafik on X, Variable Message Signs (VMS), and national radio stations.
The public is also encouraged to use navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps to plan their trips and monitor traffic conditions.
Drivers are reminded to ensure sufficient Touch ’n Go or eWallet balances, maintain vehicle condition, drive safely, take adequate rest, and comply with traffic regulations.
For assistance, motorists can contact PlusLine at 1800-88-0000 or LPT2Line at 1800-88-0220. — Bernama
