KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The suspect accused of fatally stabbing a female student at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, is cooperating with police investigations, said Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar.

He said statements from two additional witnesses — both friends of the victim — have also been recorded, bringing the total number of witnesses to 59, Astro Awani reported today.

“Yesterday, I mentioned that 57 statements had been taken; the number has now increased to 59. More statements will be recorded to ensure comprehensive findings.

“We have yet to receive reports from the pathologists, and I expect it may take about a month for the full autopsy results. We will try to expedite the process. Please allow the police space to complete the investigation,” he said during a press conference after the Walkabout Programme with Little India entrepreneurs in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration on Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang.

Shazeli added that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has assigned liaison officers to all primary and secondary schools to strengthen security measures.

“We already have School Liaison Officers (PPS) designated for each school,” he said.

The tragic incident on October 14 involved a 14-year-old student who allegedly attacked the victim in the girls’ toilet, resulting in fatal stab wounds to her chest and neck.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days by the Petaling Jaya Magistrates’ Court to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
