WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUALALUMPUR, Feb 4 — Batu Caves is preparing for a record-breaking Thaipusam on Feb11, with an estimated 1.2 to 1.5 million devotees and visitors expected to attend. To ensure safety, enhanced medical and emergency response services have been put in place.
A Central Control Command Communication and Coordination unit has been established under Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Devasthanam (SMMTD) chairman Tan Sri R. Nadaraja to streamline emergency management. Over 1,500 personnel from various agencies, including the Health Ministry (KKM), the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, will be deployed.
Accordingto SMMTD’s Medical and Emergency Coordinator, Datuk Dr A.T. Kumararajah, the Selayang Emergency and Trauma Team will provide continuous medical support. Emergency response zones have also been introduced to improve accessibility, especially along the 272 temple steps and the 14-kilometre silver chariot route from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun H.S. Lee to Batu Caves.
SMMTD trustee, Datuk N. Sivakumar, said 100,000 devotees are expected to accompany the silver chariot procession on Feb 9. Authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and local councils, are collaborating to ensure smooth crowd control, with 1,500 volunteers assisting throughout the three-day festival.
With these preparations, Batu Caves is set to host a safe and well-organized Thaipusam for all attendees. — Bernama
