PARIS, June 7 — US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned yesterday that Europe was facing what he described as an “invasion” of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, drawing a link between immigration and the legacy of the D-Day landings during remarks in Normandy.
MADRID, May 9 — Germany, France, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands have confirmed they will send aircraft to evacuate their citizens from the Spain-bound cruise ship affected by a hantavirus outbreak, Spain’s interior minister announced in Madrid today.
Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said the European Union will also deploy two additional planes to transport other European passengers still on board.
He added that the United States and United Kingdom have arranged aircraft and contingency plans to assist non-EU passengers whose home countries are unable to provide air transport.
Passengers will be permitted to take only essential belongings during the evacuation. Remaining luggage, along with the body of a passenger who died on board, will stay on the vessel and be transported to the Netherlands for disinfection, according to Garcia.
Spanish nationals will be the first to disembark, while health authorities will determine the sequence for evacuating other groups of passengers.
Grande-Marlaska said passengers will only be allowed to leave the ship once their designated evacuation flight is ready for departure. — Reuters
