NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — The Sarawak State Government’s allegation that Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) is operating illegally at the Miri Crude Oil Terminal has been dismissed as unfounded and inconsistent with existing legal provisions.
In a statement released yesterday, Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) stressed that under the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) holds exclusive authority over all petroleum-related operations in Malaysia, including those in Sarawak.
“Given this legal framework, Petronas is not required to obtain any license or permit from the Sarawak State Government to conduct petroleum activities within the state,” said Armada Bersatu.
Petronas confirmed to Bernama that its subsidiary, PCSB, had received a notice from the Sarawak Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications last Wednesday concerning gas processing and distribution.
The national oil company emphasised that PCSB is lawfully empowered under the PDA 1974 to carry out its operations, while also adhering to all applicable regulations.
“While we respect Sarawak’s aspirations, Petronas remains committed to upholding the PDA 1974 and protecting national interests,” the company said.
It added that it will continue to work collaboratively with the federal government, the Sarawak state government, and state oil company Petros to develop future frameworks that ensure regulatory clarity and operational continuity for the benefit of the industry, Sarawak, and the nation. — Bernama
