KUALA TERENGGANU, May 2 — A black panther was killed early this morning after being hit by a four-wheel drive at Km 387 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2).

Hulu Terengganu police chief Supt Sharudin Abdul Wahab said the incident occurred around 1.15am when the protected animal suddenly ran across the road.

“A Toyota Hilux, driven by a 19-year-old man, was en route from Kelantan to Kemaman, Terengganu. As the vehicle approached the location, the panther darted onto the road and the driver couldn’t avoid it. The animal died on the spot, but the driver was uninjured,” he said in a statement.

Sharudin added that the carcass was handed over to the Terengganu Wildlife and National Parks Department for further action.

He also urged motorists to drive cautiously along the LPT2 and adhere to speed limits to avoid similar accidents. — Bernama
