PUTRAJAYA, Sept 20 — A fire broke out in the kitchen of a cinema inside a shopping mall here this morning, damaging nearly 30 per cent of the area around 10am.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said an emergency call was received at 10.08am, and a team of seven firefighters from the Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Station, located 17 kilometres away, was dispatched to the scene.

“Operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Mohamad Ramdani Doriat reported that the fire occurred in the cinema’s kitchen on the third floor, affecting an area measuring 20 by 30 feet.

“The blaze had already been extinguished before firefighters arrived,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, GSC announced on Facebook that screenings at GSC IOI City Mall 2 (East) were cancelled until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances. However, by 2.30pm today, screenings had resumed as usual. — Bernama
