MANILA, Dec 16 — The father and son accused of Australia’s deadly Bondi Beach shooting spent almost all of November in the Philippines, authorities confirmed, with the father entering the country as an “Indian national.”

Sajid Akram, 50, and his son Naveed, 24, arrived from Sydney on November 1, listing Davao as their destination, and left on November 28 via Manila back to Sydney, immigration spokeswoman Dana Sandoval told AFP.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the pair were likely radicalised by “Islamic State ideology.” Mindanao, home to Davao, has a history of Islamist insurgencies, though military operations have reduced activity in recent years. — AFP
