WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — After decades of struggle, Azimah Hamzah, born in Pahang, has finally received her Malaysian citizenship at the age of 38.
Her parents, originally Muslim refugees from Cambodia, and her five siblings had long been granted Malaysian citizenship, but Azimah was left stateless due to the timing of her birth before her parents obtained permanent residency.
Despite applying for a MyKad at 12, her application was rejected, and she was issued a MyKAS (temporary resident identity card) instead. Over the years, her citizenship requests were repeatedly denied. In 2019, she took her fight to court, seeking recognition as a Malaysian, but her legal battle ended in rejection at both the High Court and Court of Appeal.
Azimah later applied for naturalized citizenship under Article 19 of the Federal Constitution in December 2024. The Malaysian government approved her request on December 20, and she received her MyKad on January 20, 2025.
With her citizenship secured, Azimah withdrew her appeal at the Federal Court, bringing an end to her years-long legal fight.
