NEW YORK, Dec 14 — Two people were killed and eight others critically injured in a shooting at Brown University on Saturday, prompting a campus-wide lockdown as the suspect remained at large, authorities said.

The attack occurred at the Barus and Holley building, which houses the engineering and physics departments, while exams were taking place. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley confirmed the casualties, saying the injured were in critical but stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a man dressed in black who fled the scene. Students and staff were ordered to shelter in place, with Brown issuing an emergency alert urging people to lock doors and stay hidden.

Local and federal authorities, including the FBI and ATF, responded to the incident. US President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the shooting and expressed condolences.
