KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — The government’s newly launched Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) subsidy programme has recorded RM43.7 million in transactions, equivalent to 21.8 million litres of RON95 petrol, as of 7pm yesterday.

According to the prime minister’s senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, nearly 912,000 beneficiaries of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), along with armed forces and police personnel, have made purchases nationwide under the scheme.

He said the initiative, which started on Sept 27 for 300,000 military and police personnel, was expanded to 5 million STR recipients on Sept 28, and from midnight on Sept 30, it has been extended to cover 16 million eligible Malaysians.

Through Budi95, recipients can purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, compared to the unsubsidised October retail price of RM2.60 per litre — a saving of 61 sen per litre, or up to RM183 per month with the 300-litre quota.

Tunku Nashrul added that the Finance Ministry is collaborating with e-hailing operators nationwide to provide additional subsidised quotas for eligible drivers. He also said discussions are underway with state authorities to extend the subsidy to boat operators in Sabah and Sarawak.
