LOS ANGELES, Dec 7 — Spectacular lava fountains burst from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano on Saturday, US volcanologists said, nearly a year after one of the world’s most active volcanoes began its latest eruptive phase.
BEIJING, Oct 4 — China’s Ministry of Water Resources has activated a Level-IV emergency flood control response in four provincial-level regions as Typhoon Matmo is expected to bring torrential rains, Xinhua reported.
From October 4 to 7, Matmo — the 21st named storm of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season — is forecast to bring heavy downpours to southern and southwestern China, particularly in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, and Yunnan. During this period, water levels in several local rivers are likely to exceed alert thresholds.
In preparation for potential flooding, the ministry has urged local water authorities to closely monitor the typhoon’s path and rainfall trends, and to issue timely warnings to the public.
Authorities have been instructed to strengthen patrols and safeguard levees while remaining vigilant for possible mountain torrents, river flooding, and urban waterlogging to protect lives and property, the ministry said.
So far, three guidance teams have been dispatched to Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan to support local efforts.
