BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
BEIJING, Jan 26 — China said today that its preliminary trade agreement with Canada is not directed at any third party, despite a US threat to impose steep tariffs if the deal proceeds.
China’s foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said the agreement, which includes reduced tariffs on Canadian canola and visa-free travel for Canadians, is based on cooperation and a win-win approach, not confrontation.
The response followed warnings from the United States that the deal could allow China to “dump goods” into North America. US President Donald Trump also criticised the talks, claiming China was seeking to dominate Canada economically.
The agreement was announced during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent visit to Beijing, amid ongoing trade tensions between Canada and the United States. — AFP
