TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
TAPAH, Jan 22 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will continue to place strong emphasis on crime prevention and school safety through its School Liaison Officers (PPS) programme, which has been in place since 2018 to promote a safe and supportive learning environment.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the initiative, led by the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) in collaboration with State Education Departments, uses a structured and comprehensive approach to tackle safety concerns in schools.
He said PPS officers act as the main point of contact between police and school communities, delivering early crime prevention education, improving students’ legal awareness and building trust between PDRM and schools.
Mohd Khalid said issues such as bullying, school violence, drug abuse, juvenile crime and the harmful effects of social media remain serious concerns, stressing that school safety requires close cooperation among teachers, parents, students, communities and the police.
He was speaking at the ‘Back to School with the Inspector-General of Police’ programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bidor, which he once attended. Also present were Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli and Bukit Aman JPJKK director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
The IGP highlighted the importance of early crime prevention education and respect for the law in shaping students’ discipline and character, adding that strong moral values are essential to personal development and success.
He urged parents and local communities to remain active partners in supporting schools and PDRM in crime prevention efforts, saying collective responsibility is key to protecting children and investing in the nation’s future. PDRM, he added, will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Education and related agencies to ensure the PPS initiative remains effective nationwide. — Bernama
