PARIS, June 7 — US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned yesterday that Europe was facing what he described as an “invasion” of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, drawing a link between immigration and the legacy of the D-Day landings during remarks in Normandy.
RIYADH, May 17 — Cristiano Ronaldo endured another setback as Al Nassr were beaten 1-0 by Japan’s Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two final on Saturday.
The defeat at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, in front of about 26,000 fans, denied Al Nassr a chance to claim the second-tier Asian title despite entering the match as favourites.
Gamba Osaka scored the decisive goal in the 29th minute when Deniz Hummet finished from the edge of the box after being played through by Issam Jebali. Al Nassr pressed strongly in the second half but were unable to find an equaliser.
Al Nassr coach Jorge Jesus said his side were caught off guard early in the match but dominated after conceding.
The loss adds to a difficult week for Ronaldo, who had earlier been denied a first Saudi Pro League title after a late equaliser against Al Hilal. The Riyadh club remain in contention for the domestic crown with one game left to play. — AFP
