JELI, March 24 — Three male students sustained injuries and burns, with one losing a finger, after playing with modified firecrackers in their school dormitory yesterday.

According to Harian Metro, the incident occurred around 4.40pm, and all three victims, aged 15 to 16, were immediately taken to Jeli Hospital for treatment.

Jeli District Police Chief Superintendent Kamarulzaman Harun stated that investigations confirmed the incident took place in a male dormitory at a local religious school.

“At the time, the victims were believed to have modified firecrackers by mixing sulphur with gravel inside a bottle to create an explosive device.

“As a result, they sustained burns and injuries on multiple parts of their bodies. One of them, a 16-year-old, lost a finger on his left hand.

“All victims are currently receiving treatment at the Jeli Hospital Emergency Department,” he said in a statement.

Kamarulzaman also urged the public to stay vigilant and monitor their children’s activities, especially during festive seasons, to prevent such incidents.
