KOTA BHARU, Sept 28 — A 28-year-old man with the honorific title ‘Datuk’, suspected of involvement in a syndicate smuggling 11,050 kilogrammes (kg) of subsidised cooking oil, has been remanded for three days starting tomorrow.

KOTA BHARU, Sept 28 — A 28-year-old man with the honorific title ‘Datuk’, suspected of involvement in a syndicate smuggling 11,050 kilogrammes (kg) of subsidised cooking oil, has been remanded for three days starting tomorrow.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid granted the remand order following a police application to facilitate further investigations under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The suspect is being probed for the unlawful possession of controlled goods, including subsidised cooking oil.

Earlier, the man, dressed in purple lockup attire, arrived at the Kota Bharu Magistrate’s Court at 9.32am.

Last Friday, Bernama reported that two enforcement officers were among eight people arrested for allegedly running ‘counter setting’ operations linked to a syndicate that siphoned 11,050 kg of subsidised cooking oil in Pasir Mas.

The operation was conducted by the Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDN) in collaboration with the Region Three Marine Police Force. — Bernama
