PARIS, June 7 — US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned yesterday that Europe was facing what he described as an “invasion” of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, drawing a link between immigration and the legacy of the D-Day landings during remarks in Normandy.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Cloud Seeding Operations (OPA) have commenced today in Kedah and Perlis following critically low and alert-level water levels at several dams, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
In a Facebook update, Nadma said the operations were carried out based on a directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help increase water levels in dams across the northern peninsula.
“In line with the Prime Minister’s recommendation, Nadma has coordinated two phases of OPA, scheduled from May 10 to 12 and May 17 to 19,” the statement said.
On the first day of the operation, a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) C-130 aircraft deployed four tanks carrying a total of 6,000 litres of salt solution.
The targeted areas include Timah Tasoh Dam in Perlis, as well as the Ahning, Pedu, Beris, and Muda dams in Kedah.
Nadma said the initiative aims to prevent further drops in water levels that could disrupt agricultural activities and household water supply in the northern region.
Despite recent rainfall in the area, the agency noted that inflow into the dams remains minimal.
Earlier on May 5, the Prime Minister instructed the RMAF and the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) to step up cloud seeding efforts in northern Peninsular Malaysia due to the prolonged dry spell. — Bernama
