WASHINGTON, April 8 — President Donald Trump told AFP yesterday that the United States had achieved a “total and complete victory” after reaching a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran.
WASHINGTON, April 7 — US President Donald Trump criticised Nato allies for failing to back the United States during the Iran war, while again voicing his intention to annex Greenland.
His remarks came ahead of an upcoming visit by Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte later this week.
“Look, we went to Nato,” Trump said, recalling that he had only casually asked for support. He claimed he was told the alliance would not assist, though he did not specify by whom.
He further alleged that some Nato members had deliberately avoided offering help, describing the alliance as a “paper tiger” that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not intimidated by.
Rutte, whom Trump described positively, is expected in Washington this week, where he will meet Trump, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The comments reflect the latest tensions between Trump and the alliance, particularly over Greenland, a territory of Denmark, which is a Nato member. Trump reiterated his stance, saying the US wants Greenland but Denmark has refused.
He also took aim at key non-Nato partners such as South Korea, Australia, and Japan for not supporting the US in the Iran conflict.
At the same time, Trump praised several Gulf nations — including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates — for their backing during the war. — AFP
