PUTRAJAYA, April 8 — The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has dismissed claims that additional applications for the BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) subsidy are open to the public, describing them as untrue and baseless.

In a statement yesterday, MOF clarified that while such a function existed during the early rollout of BUDI95, it was never meant for general applications based on personal needs.

Instead, it was designed for specific cases with clear and verified operational requirements, such as e-hailing drivers and boat owners, subject to strict criteria.

“The additional application feature on the BUDI95 portal has been misunderstood as a way to freely request higher eligibility limits. Following this confusion, the application button has been deactivated,” the statement said.

MOF reiterated that the 200-litre monthly eligibility cap remains in place to ensure subsidies benefit the majority of the rakyat while maintaining supply stability.

“This temporary measure is implemented in response to ongoing global energy market pressures, which have driven up subsidy costs and require more careful management,” it added.

Meanwhile, MOF noted that data shows the 200-litre cap is sufficient for 90 per cent of BUDI95 users.

At the subsidised rate of RM1.99 per litre, users can purchase up to RM398 worth of RON95 monthly, with the government covering about RM500 in subsidies per recipient.

“The government will continue to safeguard the rakyat, tighten enforcement to prevent leakages, and closely monitor global energy trends while remaining ready to make necessary adjustments,” MOF said. — Bernama
