KUALA LUMPUR, WASHINGTON, March 14 — Donald Trump confirmed that he has bought several members of his cabinet the same pair of shoes from his preferred brand.

The unusual gifts were first reported by The Wall Street Journal, which said Trump had presented cabinet members with Florsheim shoes priced at about US$145 (RM571), sometimes even guessing their shoe sizes on the spot.

“It’s a nice shoe,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Radio when asked about the report.

The 79-year-old Republican explained that he enjoys buying the shoes for colleagues who often complain about uncomfortable footwear.

“When they tell me they have a problem, I say, ‘Let me get you a pair of shoes.’ It seems to work out pretty well. Now they look all spiffy and nice. It’s a gift from Donald Trump,” he said.

Trump also remarked that he has “never liked cabinet members walking in in sneakers.”

According to the report, those who have worn the shoes include Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.

One photograph showed Rubio wearing what appeared to be the same pair of shoes, though they looked slightly loose at the heels.

The model most similar to those seen in the photos is a leather dress shoe made in China and sold on the Florsheim website for US$145 per pair. — AFP
