WASHINGTON, April 6 — US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening major strikes on civilian infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid rising global oil prices.
The conflict, which began on February 28 following US-Israeli attacks on Tehran, has escalated across the Middle East, disrupting energy supplies and pushing oil prices higher.
Trump demanded Iran reopen the key shipping route, setting a deadline while warning of imminent attacks on power plants and bridges. Iran, however, rejected the threat, with officials accusing him of acting under the influence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Russia also criticised Washington’s stance, urging a return to negotiations instead of ultimatums.
Meanwhile, fighting has intensified across the region, with Iranian strikes hitting Gulf infrastructure and Israeli forces expanding operations into Lebanon. Civilian areas in Israel and Lebanon have also been affected.
