WASHINGTON, Feb 20 — A large banner featuring Donald Trump has been displayed outside the headquarters of the United States Department of Justice, marking the latest move to project his influence over federal institutions.

The blue banner, hung between two columns of the building, carries the slogan “Make America Safe Again.” Since returning to the White House, Trump has reshaped several government bodies by appointing loyalists, renaming institutions and removing officials linked to past investigations.

Similar banners were previously placed on buildings such as the Department of Labor, the Department of Agriculture and the US Institute of Peace. In December, a board appointed by Trump also voted to add his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

In 2023, former special counsel Jack Smith brought cases against Trump over classified documents and alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The cases were later dropped after Trump’s 2024 election win, citing a longstanding Justice Department policy against prosecuting a sitting president. — Reuters
