LONDON, Sept 12 — Gianluigi Donnarumma says he is eager to prove himself in the “best league in the world” after completing his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester City.

The Italian goalkeeper joined up with City on Thursday following his £30 million (RM171 million) transfer on deadline day.

Donnarumma, 26, lifted the Champions League and secured his fourth Ligue 1 title with PSG last season, but manager Luis Enrique made it clear he was no longer first-choice at the club — opening the door for his switch to the Premier League champions.

He could make his debut as early as Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

“This is a new chapter in my life and career. Playing in the Premier League with Manchester City is an incredible feeling, and I’m ready for the challenge,” Donnarumma said.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing here because it’s the best league in the world. For a player, achieving success in the Premier League is the ultimate goal, so I’m very happy to be here. City worked hard to bring me in, and I hope to repay that faith.”

After arriving from international duty with Italy, Donnarumma is settling into life under Pep Guardiola, getting to know his new teammates and the club’s facilities.

“City has always fascinated me. I’ve followed them closely and now that I see the training centre, the stadium, and the people around me, it’s fantastic,” he added. “You don’t fully understand the values of a club until you experience it firsthand.

“I’m proud to be here and happy with the decision I’ve made. My goal is to make history, win as many trophies as possible, and hopefully become a symbol for this club and city.” — AFP
