KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — The Transport Ministry (MOT) has clarified that unpaid traffic summonses will not impact a driver’s eligibility for the BUDI95 petrol subsidy, countering earlier media reports that implied otherwise.

In a statement, MOT emphasised that traffic summonses and the BUDI95 programme are separate systems that do not influence each other. “These are two different matters with no automatic or direct link,” the ministry said.

Under the current rules, applicants must fulfil two key conditions to apply for or maintain the subsidy:

Be a Malaysian citizen verified via MyKad.

Hold a valid driving licence — meaning it is still active or has expired for no more than three years.

MOT also urged the public to continue obeying traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.

In a statement, MOT stressed that traffic summonses and the BUDI95 subsidy are two separate mechanisms that operate independently. “They are not the same matter and do not have any automatic direct connection,” the ministry said. — Picture by Sayuti Zainudin
