PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 — Budget 2026, to be tabled next month, is set to place strong emphasis on boosting the tourism sector in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said her ministry had already held discussions with the Ministry of Finance (MoF), during which they outlined their priorities and aspirations for the coming year.

“This time, our focus is on the local authorities (PBT) within the Federal Territories, particularly efforts to further develop Labuan, especially in tourism promotion.

“In addition, we are gearing up for VMY2026, with various programmes planned, including beautification initiatives for Kuala Lumpur, to ensure our capital city leaves the best impression,” she told reporters after flagging off the FT Run Putrajaya 2025 here today.

Dr Zaliha expressed hope that the MoF would support the Federal Territories Department’s initiatives to enhance Kuala Lumpur’s appeal for VMY2026, ultimately attracting more domestic and international tourists.

Budget 2026 will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on October 10. It marks the fourth Madani Budget, aimed at strengthening fiscal resilience, reinforcing economic fundamentals, and improving the people’s quality of life.

The budget will continue to highlight the three pillars of the Madani Economy — raising the ceiling of national growth, lifting the floor of living standards, and driving reforms, particularly in governance.

On the FT Run Putrajaya, organised by the Federal Territories Sports Council (MSWP) and the Federal Territories Youth and Sports Department, Dr Zaliha said the five-kilometre event drew nearly 2,000 participants.

“The programme encourages the community to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle in line with the ‘Bandar Chase’ vision, particularly its ‘Healthy City’ component, which has received strong support from Putrajaya residents,” she said.

The Bandar Chase vision aspires to transform all three Federal Territories into cities that are Clean, Healthy, Advanced, Safe and Eco-Friendly. — Bernama
