WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — At the High Court today, former Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) vice-chancellor Tan Sri Dr. Ibrahim Abu Shah testified that no authority — including any Islamic Religious Council or the Department of Islamic Affairs — had ever declared Hannah Yeoh’s biography, Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey, to be a threat to Islam. Responding to cross-examination by lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo, who represents Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Ibrahim also confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs has not banned the book since its 2014 release.
The defamation suit targets two Facebook posts made in May 2017 by Universiti Utara Malaysia lecturer Dr. Kamarul Zaman Yusoff. In these posts, Kamarul alleged that Yeoh intended to promote Christianity through her political work and aimed to reshape Malaysia into a Christian nation. Ibrahim acknowledged that the book does not claim Islam is not Malaysia’s official religion, yet maintained it could still pose a threat, even though Malaysian Muslims might not be easily swayed.
