PARIS, June 7 — US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned yesterday that Europe was facing what he described as an “invasion” of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, drawing a link between immigration and the legacy of the D-Day landings during remarks in Normandy.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — Ten public parks managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will begin opening earlier, from 5.30am to 10pm, giving city residents more time to enjoy leisure and recreational activities.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the parks involved are Perdana Botanical Gardens, Titiwangsa Lake Gardens, Kepong Metropolitan Park, Permaisuri Lake Gardens, Bukit Jalil Park, Menjalara Lake Gardens, Pudu Ulu Park, Alam Damai Recreational Park, Ampang Hilir Lake Gardens and Danau Kota Lake Gardens.
She added that Perdana Botanical Gardens and Titiwangsa Lake Gardens will remain open until midnight every Friday and Saturday, allowing the public to take part in recreational activities at night.
According to Hannah, the revised operating hours were introduced after considering public usage patterns, particularly among working adults, senior citizens and those who prefer exercising early in the morning when temperatures are cooler and the parks are less crowded.
She said DBKL has also taken into account park cleanliness, lighting, maintenance of public toilets, security arrangements and coordination of on-site personnel to ensure visitors can use the facilities safely and comfortably.
“In today’s increasingly demanding urban environment, green spaces and public parks play a vital role in supporting the physical and mental well-being of the community,” she said.
Hannah also noted that several promenades, public fields and parks managed by Putrajaya Corporation and Labuan Corporation will also open from 5.30am, including Persiaran Perdana Promenade, the Public Field in Precinct 9, Labuan Square Public Field and Labuan Botanical Garden. — Bernama
