KUALA BERANG, Dec 6 — A couple set to marry on December 25 were killed when their vehicle plunged into a ravine at KM 52 of Jalan Kuala Jeneris-Sungai Gawi-Aring (Bukit Kawah) in Hulu Terengganu yesterday.

Hulu Terengganu district police chief Supt Sharudin Abdul Wahab identified the victims as Hassan Shazali, 52, a teacher from Kampung Menanti, Melor, Kelantan, and Suzaimah Che Azis, 34, a canteen worker from Gua Musang, Kelantan, both employed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lebir.

Police received a call at around 5.30pm reporting that a Toyota Fortuner SUV had skidded and fallen into a 200-foot ravine.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred when the couple, travelling from Hulu Terengganu to Gua Musang, entered a road closed due to a landslide, causing the vehicle to skid into the ravine. Both victims were ejected on impact and pronounced dead at the scene,” he said. Their bodies were taken to Hulu Terengganu Hospital for post-mortem.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
