LONDON, March 22 — Former Nottingham Forest and England defender Stuart Pearce has returned to his role as a football pundit following his recent health scare. The 62-year-old spent five days in a Canadian hospital earlier this month after suffering chest pains during a flight from the United States.

Pearce’s flight from Las Vegas to London’s Heathrow Airport was rerouted to St John’s, Canada, where he received prompt treatment. He has now fully recovered and resumed his broadcast duties at Wembley on Friday, covering England’s World Cup qualifier against Albania.

Speaking to talkSPORT radio before the match, Pearce explained, “I just got a virus. It sort of attached itself to my heart and needed clearing, a reboot of sorts. By Friday, the doctors told me that if there was no swelling around my heart, they would essentially stop my heart and reboot it again if necessary. That’s exactly what they did—my heart returned to a normal rate, and they released me the following day.”

He added, “I’ve been very humbled by the support from across the football community. The Virgin aircraft crew were brilliant; they took excellent care of me and then decided not to risk a transatlantic flight by diverting and dropping me off.” — AFP
