LONDON, June 23 — Mayors from 40 cities, including London, Phoenix and Melbourne, have agreed to collaborate on curbing the rising strain that rapid expansion of data centres is placing on electricity grids, water supplies and local communities, according to city leaders.
PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) has pledged full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into the transfer of three Asian elephants — Dara, Amoi and Kelat (DAK) — from Taiping Zoo to Tennoji Zoo in Osaka, Japan.
Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the ministry had taken note of the ongoing probe and reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in all aspects of wildlife management.
“NRES is prepared to provide full and comprehensive cooperation to the authorities throughout the investigation to ensure the process is carried out thoroughly and transparently,” he said in a statement today.
He stressed that the ministry would not protect or shield any party if any wrongdoing, irregularities, or procedural breaches are proven.
Arthur added that this stance is crucial to protect institutional integrity and Malaysia’s reputation internationally.
The MACC confirmed yesterday that it has opened an investigation into the elephant transfer following allegations of irregularities and possible leakages in the process.
On June 18, wildlife rights group Hak Asasi Hidupan Liar Malaysia (Hidup) urged MACC to probe the relocation of the three elephants, alleging that certain payments were not channelled to the government and involving transactions estimated at RM53 million linked to several individuals. — Bernama
