TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary relief centres in Sarawak and Perak remained unchanged as of this morning, with three centres still operating in Sarawak and one in Perak.
In Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat said three relief centres in Miri continued operations following flooding and a recent landslide. As of 8am today, a total of 142 people from 65 families were still taking shelter at the centres.
Four evacuees from two families remain at the Red Crescent Hall relief centre, while four individuals from one family have been relocated following the landslide incident. The SK Kampung Angus centre is currently sheltering 15 victims from five families, while the SK Suai Niah centre continues to house the highest number of evacuees, with 119 people from 57 families.
In Perak, the Kampung Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall remains the only relief centre in operation, sheltering 19 victims from five families. The Perak SDMC Secretariat said the centre, which was opened on November 25, is accommodating residents from Kampung Matang Jambu, Kampung Glouster, Ayer Hitam, and Batu 7, 8 and 9.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast stormy weather across all districts this afternoon, except in Bagan Datuk. — Bernama
