KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — Police discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) and various types of drugs inside an overturned vehicle after a 25-kilometre high-speed chase ended in a dramatic crash in Serdang early this morning.

According to Serdang police chief ACP Muhamad Farid Ahmad, the incident occurred around 3.30am when officers from the Serdang District Police Headquarters stopped a Honda Civic at a roadblock along Jalan Suakasih. However, the driver ignored police instructions and sped off toward Seri Kembangan.

“A chase ensued until the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a road divider and overturned at KM5.1 of the Kajang Silk Highway,” he said in a statement.

Three male suspects, aged between 40 and 51, were arrested at the scene and taken to Serdang Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A search of the car uncovered multiple types of drugs, including 77.10 grams of cocaine, 49.28 grams of cannabis, 54.07 grams of MDMA (ecstasy) powder, 30.18 grams of ketamine, 3.20 grams of yaba pills, 3.40 grams of ecstasy pills, and 0.98 grams of Erimin 5 tablets.

“Further inspection revealed a suspicious grey object wrapped in clear plastic, containing metal parts and screws, as well as a roll of wire and a motorcycle battery—suspected components of an improvised explosive device (IED),” Muhamad Farid said.

He added that two of the suspects have a combined total of 43 prior records for criminal and drug-related offences, while the third suspect is currently wanted by police under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants, with further investigations carried out by the Kajang District Police Headquarters under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 3 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. — BernamaThe suspect lost control of the car and crashed into a road divider during the high-speed chase. — Picture courtesy of PDRM
