KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has pledged to take full responsibility and enhance safety measures in schools following a series of recent crimes involving students.
Deeply saddened by the incidents, Fadhlina said the Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to strengthening safety and well-being initiatives in all educational institutions to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
“My deputy (Wong Kah Woh) and I take full responsibility for improving safety in all institutions under the MOE.
We will carry out these reforms together for the safety and well-being of our schools,” she wrote on Facebook today.
She added that immediate steps would be taken to safeguard students, teachers, and school staff.
Fadhlina also expressed gratitude to parents and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) for their continued support during this challenging period.
The country has recently been shaken by several disturbing crimes in schools.
On Oct 14, a 16-year-old girl was fatally stabbed at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya. The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations.
Earlier, on Oct 7, a nine-year-old girl in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, was allegedly molested by a female security guard and her boyfriend. In another case, on Oct 2, a Form Three student in Alor Gajah, Melaca. was reportedly raped by her seniors. — Bernama
