KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — Dr Zaliha Mustafa disclosed that 44,901 civil servants screened through the Public Service Psychological Health Digital Profiling System (MyPsyD) were identified as high risk for mental health issues involving depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicidal tendencies.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said this total accounts for 4.6 per cent of the 975,780 civil servants who participated in the MyPsyD assessments from March 1 to December 31, 2024.

She added that the Public Service Department (JPA) developed MyPsyD to evaluate officers’ psychological well-being.

“Overall, implementing the MyPsyD psychological health screening is a significant government initiative to detect psychological and mental health risks among civil servants.

“JPA’s efforts, backed by professional intervention through preventive measures and early treatment, are expected to safeguard civil servants’ well-being holistically and subsequently boost their productivity throughout their service,” she noted in a written response uploaded on Parliament’s website today.

Dr Zaliha was replying to a question from Datuk Dr Alias Razak (PN-Kuala Nerus) concerning specific government programmes following reports that more than 40,000 civil servants were facing psychological health issues.

In her response, she said the government had adopted strategic steps to prevent and address these issues in a comprehensive manner.

“These include immediately referring severe cases to specialists, providing psychological interventions through psychotherapy, and close monitoring by psychological officers.

“Additionally, JPA’s Psychological Management Division (BPPs) conducts various competency training programs and has developed the Integrated Intervention Management Guidelines, together with related treatment and referral frameworks, to reinforce psychological services in the public sector,” she said. — Bernama
